Updated FMLA, LOA, Short Term Disability and Worker’s Compensation: A Nurse’s Guide to Worker’s Protections

Are you familiar with the following employee benefits, Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA), Leave of Absence (LOA), Short Term Disability and Worker’s Compensation? Do you know when and how to use them and are you aware of how to access them at your workplace? This 1.0 professional development activity is intended to provide you with detailed description of the above worker benefits and equip you with knowledge on when and how to use each one of them.

Session objectives:

  1. Define the basic protections of the Family Medical Leave Act, short-term disability, Worker’s Compensation, and leave of absence.
  2. Describe methods of accessing each program relating to government regulation, healthcare facility employment policies and contractual protections.
  3. Demonstrate increased knowledge of worker benefits and their practical application.

Participants that complete the CE presentation and post-test/evaluation in their entirety and pass the post- test with 80% or higher will receive an electronic certificate via email. RNs completing the activity will receive 1.0 contact hour of continuing education.

The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.



COST: This CE is FREE for MNA members and $20 for non-members.

  • Participants who achieve a minimum passing score of 80% will receive a certificate awarding 1.0 contact hours.
  • Participants who do not achieve a passing score will have the option to gain success with the material by repeating the material and test at no additional cost.
